At Zinc, we believe in making a difference, not just in the workplace but in people’s lives. Each year, we are going to choose a charity that resonates with us, one that makes a profound impact. This year, we’ve selected the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF), and this cause is incredibly personal to us.

Luke and I (for those who don’t know, we’re a couple) welcomed our beautiful baby boy, Louie, into the world last September. After a difficult fertility journey, his arrival was one of the happiest moments of our lives. However, our joy soon turned into fear when we realised something was wrong. Louie wasn’t gaining weight, and after numerous consultations and tests, doctors suspected a rare and potentially life-threatening liver condition called biliary atresia.

Biliary atresia is a condition that blocks the bile ducts and can lead to liver failure if not treated promptly. The experience was harrowing. Louie underwent extensive testing, including a liver biopsy, and we were faced with the terrifying prospect of him needing a liver transplant. But after several nerve-wracking weeks, we received the best news—Louie’s liver had started to heal, and his blood tests showed improvement. Today, Louie is doing well and has, against the odds, fixed his liver. We are beyond grateful for this outcome.

In the midst of this nightmare, we found strength and support through the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation. The foundation not only provides essential resources for families dealing with pediatric liver disease but also creates a community of support. Through CLDF, we met other parents who understood our fears and challenges, and it became a vital lifeline during those dark days.

To give back and help other families facing similar struggles, Luke and I, along with the Zinc team, are taking on a 275-mile cycling challenge from London to Paris this October.

This journey is extra special for us as it will mark the one-year anniversary of Louie’s birth—a milestone we want to celebrate by raising funds and awareness for CLDF. Our goal is to raise £20,000, and Zinc will match donations up to £10,000.

This is more than just a fundraising event—it’s a journey of hope, resilience, and support for families facing the unimaginable. If you're attending Unleash in Paris this October, come visit our stand where we'll have a bike set up—feel free to stop by, say hello, and even donate.

Together, we can make a real impact for the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation and the families it supports. If you're able to support the team and this special cause, please follow the link:
