What is BPSS clearance?
BPSS stands for Baseline Personnel Security Standard. It's the standard pre-employment check for anyone working with or for a UK public sector organisation, and it covers four key areas:
Employment gaps of six months or more within the three-year window, continuous or cumulative, need to be investigated and evidenced.
The same six-month threshold applies to time abroad: if a candidate's lived overseas for six months or more in that period, an international criminal record check is required alongside the UK one. Zinc gives you access to all of the background checks necessary to compliantly complete BPSS vetting.
Zinc runs all of this through one platform, so your team isn't juggling separate providers to cover the basics. Once you've reviewed the results and are satisfied it meets the standard, you can complete the BPSS Verification Record (BPSS - Annex B template) for audit purposes.
