Background check experience
It’s a familiar story: too much to do, not enough time to do it in. Combine this with a busy role with auditing requirements, and you have a recipe for stress.
In order to stay compliant with regulations governing IT services in the financial industry and have their documents ready for audits, Alfa had to have all their checks completed within a 12-week timeframe. But their previous background checking provider wasn’t able to consistently stick with that timeline. “It was quite challenging to make sure educational and professional qualification checks were being completed on time,” said Leah.
Their previous provider offered minimal support when things went wrong. If a candidate or HR team member needed help, they had no way of getting in touch with the provider — and no way of resolving the issue.
With graduate recruitment taking up much of her time, Leah was busy going to job fairs, answering queries, and managing over 1,000 applications for 8 available roles. She didn’t have time to handle tech support from candidates and complete manual data entry — both of which shouldn’t be a problem when using the right background-checking provider.
Plus, the platform was out of date. Leah had to manually input a lot of personal information before sending checks, and the checks took too long to come back. It was clear the team needed a more modern solution.
After finding Zinc on Google, Leah and her manager quickly jumped on a call to learn more. From the start, it was a totally different experience. “Firstly, everyone was super engaging,” said Leah. “It was very interactive.”
From the first call, they loved how streamlined the platform was. Checks came back in as little as a day, and Zinc’s platform made it easier to record results for hassle-free audits.
In response to some feedback, Zinc even updated the way flags are raised in checks so Leah can clearly see the reason for the flag and record them for audits required by their regulator.
The team liked how modern the platform was for sending in biometrics, and thought that Zinc’s interface looked “useful and easy.” And getting in touch with the Zinc team was simple. Now if Leah needs to speak to Bernardine, her account manager, she can book a call quickly and jump on whenever she needs help.
Results
At the end of the day, it’s all about speed. And using Zinc has taken a load of admin work off Leah’s shoulders.
If a candidate has questions, it doesn’t derail her workload. She can just direct them towards Zinc’s customer chat and the issue gets resolved quickly, which frees up her time to focus on other priorities.
“We just had five new hires last week, and it felt like I didn’t even have to do a lot,” she said. “It was all so smooth.”
The automated follow-ups for candidates and referees take even more work off her plate with an estimated 3,960 minutes saved, so she doesn’t have to spend time chasing documents.
Before Zinc, background checks seemed like a mammoth task that took up too much time. Now, sending checks to candidates takes seconds, and she rarely needs to follow up herself. When issues do come up, it’s easy to talk to her account manager or support and get them resolved.
