Navigating the reference-checking process can be a frustrating maze for both recruiters and candidates. Multiple submissions, unclear requirements, and compliance concerns waste valuable time and can slow hiring. Recognising this, we’re excited to launch "Best Reference Yet" - the reinvigorated reference collection flow for candidates that enhances clarity, speeds up verification, and gets you the references you need the first time around.

Flag personal emails

We’ve addressed one of the most common compliance issues—personal email submissions. Recruiters can now specify if personal emails are allowed for HR and regulatory references, making the process clearer and helping candidates meet employer requirements the first time around.

  • Flag personal email addresses: When personal emails are not accepted, candidates are notified as they enter the email address details and prompted to provide an alternate if they can. If they are not, the check will be automatically marked as consider to review or follow up as needed.

Clearer requirements, less re-submissions required

Candidates often are requested to add further references at a later date due to unclear requirements. With "Best Reference Yet," we’ve streamlined how requirements are presented:

  • Dynamic guidance: Candidates see precisely who they have provided already, so they don’t duplicate information they have already provided within the same reference type.
  • Avoid duplication with HR references: You can now opt to not accept manual HR references if a candidate has partially completed instant verification. This reduces the likeness that referees will receive a request for both an HR reference type and a regulatory or a professional reference. When this happens, referees don’t respond or get confused about what information they should add.

How to make these changes to your reference packages

Candidates will immediately benefit from the redesigning of the candidate flow for increased clarity, so there are no changed needed here. If you’d like to utilise the flagging of personal emails or not accepting manual HR references then navigate to packages > select your package > update the desired settings in the references section.
