We’re excited to announce the release of our new DBS Update Service integration, designed to streamline your hiring and rechecking process for roles requiring enhanced DBS checks. With this integration, you can instantly access up-to-date DBS status information, eliminating delays and the need for constant follow-ups. It also simplifies the mandatory recheck process every three years, ensuring your recruitment remains compliant and efficient from start to finish.

Benefits

  • More new employees will join the update service: we make it as easy as possible for candidates to join the update service giving them simple steps to follow. We will send follow up emails to encourage the new employee to join.
  • Compliant update service checking: checking the update service compliantly and documenting your compliance has a lot of nuance. Unfortunately we found that many companies were opening themselves up to risk here, mitigate this with Zinc.
  • Automated identity verification integrated: as with our regular DBS checks, our Identity verification is in sync with the update service so we will verify the name of the person your checking.
  • One click rechecks: use Zinc’s rechecking hub so you can set reminders to automatically recheck employees at any frequency. Some choose to recheck the update service qurterly since it’s so simple and you can impress your auditors.
  • Faster checks: with an optimised way to process update service checks and more of your employees joining, checks will become faster for you.

Here’s a closer look at how the DBS Update Service works and why it’s a must-have for streamlining your hiring process.

How It Works

To check a candidate's DBS status, employers follow three steps:

  1. Verify the candidate's name, workforce type, and barred list(s) against their DBS certificate.
  2. Complete the Update Service declaration for compliance.
  3. View the result instantly.

Possible Results

  • No New Information: The certificate is still valid, with no updates.
  • Disclosed Information, Remains Valid: The original disclosed information is still accurate.
  • New Information Found: The certificate is no longer valid—apply for a new DBS check.

If any details don’t match the new role requirements, a new Enhanced DBS check will be automatically initiated.

Using the DBS Update Service offers faster initial background checks and required rechecks every three years, ensuring your hiring process stays on track without unnecessary delays. By allowing more frequent enhanced DBS checks, it also helps you maintain compliance and mitigate risk, giving you up-to-date criminal background information to ensure your candidates meet the highest standards.
